Functional Movement to balance the body

Targeted Movement for Massage Therapy - 8 or 12 hour version

This course is pared down from its usual 15 hours to accommodate CE requirements for the state of Montana.*

Seminar Overview

Practical Movement is a functional movement retraining technique that maps over 160 movements specifically designed to re-educate the neuromuscular system, activate muscles that are not functioning well, and create postural balance through targeted lengthening of shortened muscles.

This seminar introduces you to the Practical Movement curriculum and covers the key movements that will address the most common issues that you encounter in your practice.

Because only 12 hours of CEs are required for Montana license renewal, we're offering two classes to help you meet that requirement. Choose 1 day for 8 hours or attend both days for the full 12 hours.

Topics Covered in the 8-hour version:

  • Overview of Practical Movement.
  • When movement re-education (Practical Movement) is used instead of stretching and how to convert any stretch into a Practical Movement.
  • How to make your hands-on work more effective by teaching clients simple movements that can be performed during or between sessions.
  • Breath movements to address various spinal and postural imbalances including rib rotation.
  • Movements that wake up the spine and one that's great for low back pain.
  • How best to incorporate this material into your existing practice (includes scope of practice issues).
  • How to motivate your clients to incorporate movement into their daily lives.
  • Why dysfunctional posture stays locked in and how to change it.
Topics Covered in the 12-hour version:

  • All of the topics covered in the 8-hour version plus
  • A common mistake practitioners make in treating plantar fasciitis.
  • Movements for the shoulder girdle to address adhesive capsulitis and other shoulder disorders.
  • Self care interventions for disorders of the elbow, forearm, hand and wrist.
  • How to rebalance the arches of the feet - and when not to.
  • And much more!
Seminar Extras
  • A detailed student guide loaded with photographs, notes and reference materials.
  • Cross-referenced indexes make it easy to choose movements specific for the musculature.
  • Each movement lists the uses for that movement.
