Learning Outcomes for Postural Assessment and Treatment Protocols
At the end of the seminar, the participant will be able to:
Perform a Postural Assessment of the client in the supine and standing positions and mark the results on a chart.
List the causes of postural imbalance.
List the imbalance patterns of the pelvis.
List 3 reasons why the pelvis may be tilted.
Differentiate between a functional and anatomical leg length difference.
Compare and contrast 5 different methods of diagnosing an anatomical leg length difference.
Note: This is not to teach the therapist how to diagnose. It is offered only to teach the therapist what methods are available (and there are many), so as to assist in choosing and communicating with the physician who will be making the diagnosis.
Differentiate between a measurement that indicates a hemipelvis or a flexion imbalance in the pelvis.
List 7 compensations the body might make if an anatomical leg length difference is present.
List the difference between a podiatrist, pedorthist and orthotist.
Differentiate between a functional and accommodative orthotic, so as to make the proper referral to a pedorthist, podiatrist or orthotist.
Differentiate between an orthotic and a foot lift.
Describe the muscular/soft tissue treatment protocols when functional and/or structural imbalances are present.
List the musculature that causes a particular postural imbalance:
a. Elevates / depresses the shoulder.
b. Elevates / depresses the ilium.
c. Rotates the shoulder anteriorly / posteriorly.
d. Rotates the pelvic girdle anteriorly / posteriorly.
